Stephanie has a ring

Last night I gave Stephanie her ring. To say she was happy would be an understatement.

I actually received the ring last week but held off giving it to her immediately. Stephanie had been sick and I hadn't figured out when or how to give it to her. My sister Kathy had a great idea. She thought that I might be able to get our community band involved somehow. I quickly envisioned the band sight-reading an arrangement of Mendelssohn's Wedding Marching. As the band continued to play, I would put down my tuba, walk up to Stephanie, tap her on the shoulder, kneel down, and ask her to marry me in front of our friends. It did not happen that way.

We recently had a concert and there weren't any rehearsals scheduled soon enough for me to give Stephanie her ring before her bridal shower. Without any other particularly great ideas on how to give her the ring, I decided last night that I couldn't wait any longer and that I'd have to wing it. We went to dinner at Applebee's and afterward we went for a short drive. As Stephanie and I both like to look at beautiful houses and dream of the future, I drove her around some of the large houses near Lake Erie. I knew there was a particularly beautiful spot to view the sunset and I took her there. After sitting in the car for a few minutes, I asked her if we could watch the sunset from a bench that was pointed in the correct direction.

As we sat watching the sun go down, she made a comment that it seemed like a particularly romantic location. She joked that with my pay day only a couple days away I could buy her ring just in time for the bridal shower. I was starting to think this was about the right moment to get on my knees and propose to her when she gently ribbed me about this being a good moment to propose. I realized she was right.

I swung off our shared bench and bent down on one knee. I looked up at her and I asked if she would mary me. She was quiet as I reached into the pocket of my leather jacket and pulled out the box containing her engagement ring. She said yes and kissed me soundly.

It should be noted that I did not actually take the ring from him until I'd already kissed him soundly. :)
